Digital Scales You Can Connect to the Internet

Digital Scales You Can Connect to the InternetCollecting weight data is an integral part of the weighing process. By monitoring and analyzing data, businesses can control quality, automate tasks, minimize waste and improve efficiency. Connecting a scale to the internet facilitates how employees can access and utilize data.

Ethernet

Ethernet is the most widely used local area network (LAN) technology. A wired connection between the modem and router allows you to connect and pass information through various computer systems within your building and to share devices between them.

Using a hardwire connection between the scale and router, our free Remote Indicator Software allows you to monitor, control and export weight data from your scale and record, sort, group and analyze the data from a workstation computer. Our free utility allows you directly import data to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or Access Database file.

In order to use Ethernet, your scale must be assigned a unique IP address, which gives the scale a unique designation and allows communication with computers and other devices. The scale may also be given a name or industry-specific form of identification so it’s easy to locate on the network.

WiFi

WiFi is a newer, wireless technology that works similarly to Ethernet, allowing you to access the scale through your local area connection. The wireless connection eliminates the cost of installing cables and allows communication over longer distances or where a wired connection simply isn’t possible.

A wireless adapter on your scale will translate data into a radio signal (much like your cell phone or television) and transmit it using an internal antenna. Your wireless router will receive the signal and decode it.

Using either technology, Arlyn Scales offers a Windows-based software utility that allows you to capture data in an Excel spreadsheet or Access database table. Once the computer receives the data, the utility can automatically organize it into tables, bar or pie charts, spreadsheets and other useful documents. By recording this data, it’s possible to monitor weight data over time and monitor trends.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is one of the latest advancements in internet technology. Massive amounts of data can be processed through a secure connection that requires no hard drive or dedicated server. Data is simply stored “in the cloud” and can be accessed from any authorized location throughout the world, which makes it an ideal solution for companies that need to integrate data from different locations.
